William "Bill" Archie Jones

Today the family of William “Bill” Archie Jones of Medicine Hat, Alberta, announce his passing on December 23, 2024 at the age of 92.

Bill was born June 24, 1932, in Trail, British Columbia to Scottish born parents, Colin C. Jones (1901 – 2002) and Mary (nee Forrest) (1904 – 1985). After high school, Bill attended S.A.I.T., training in Aeromechanical Engineering. His early working years were employed with Avro Aircraft beginning in Toronto, Canada, then California, then Cold Lake, Alberta, where he met his close friend and future brother (Murray) and sister-in-law (Betty) Sweetman. Bill then chose to work for Canada’s Department of National Defense; first Quebec City where he met and married his life-long partner Marjorie (nee Schmaltz) on December 29, 1960. Shortly after, the couple came back west to Alberta making their home in Medicine Hat and working in Suffield, Alberta for 32 years. Bill’s work life was filled with interesting and varied participation in many projects and he remained life-long friends with many of his work associates sharing in annual reunions and Sunday breakfast until his passing. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and cruising by ship to many countries throughout his life.

Left behind to remember him are his wife, Marjorie; daughter, Shelley (James); and son, Murray (Dorothy).

Bill’s wishes were that his ashes be spread in a place of special meaning to his family. A remembrance bench for Bill is planned for the spring. There will be no formal service held at his request.
