It is with great sadness that we announce that Velma Cecilia Currie passed away peacefully at Agecare Valleyview Care Home in Medicine Hat, Alberta on December 10, 2024. She was 88 years old.
Born near Baie-Sainte-Anne, New Brunswick, she grew up in the Miramichi region in her adopted home. She moved to Saint John in her adult years where she completed Nursing School, and met her husband William Currie, who was serving in the Royal Canadian Navy. She was the core of our family and persevered through some of life's toughest challenges. She loved to laugh with her friends, find time to knit, and bake the best gingersnaps and Christmas fruit cakes.
Velma is survived by her sister, Dora (Arthur); her daughter, Willa; her sons, William (Monique) and David (Sharla); and her grandchildren Nicole, Ryan and Mason. She is predeceased by her son, Leslie, and her husband, William.
There are no plans for a Memorial Service at this time. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Saint John's Cedar Hill Cemetery in Summer, 2025. The family would like to thank the staff at Agecare Valleyview Care Home for providing care and comfort in her final years.
