Trevor Simmonds Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Trevor “Fuzz” Simmonds, 53, of Medicine Hat, AB on March 8th, 2023. He was born in Calgary, AB on March 13th, 1969. Trevor grew up in Medicine Hat, AB, playing local sports throughout both childhood and adulthood. He loved playing hockey, soccer, football, softball and golf. He attended Riverside Elementary School and Crescent Heights High School, where he met Leah.

Trevor spent the last 25 years of his life working in the oilfield, between both Canada and the US. He was best known on site as “Pops”, as he was the old man who liked to take care of his colleagues. He would offer to feed anyone with his indulgent cooking, even if they had all just worked a 14-hour shift. Many of these meals were prepared in the bed of a truck or in a microwave, but they were certified gourmet nonetheless. He loved to cook and entertain, with a sense of humor unlike any other.

While Trevor enjoyed his job, and loved his work crew, he also appreciated many sports. He supported football and baseball, but the Leafs reigned in his mind. Being a dedicated, delusional Leafs fan, lead to many jokes and great evenings with loved ones. Hockey was always a source of bonding for his two children. He coached both kids and loved every minute of it. Fuzz was so proud of them. Apart from his wife, children and friends, the dogs in his life were the true favourites; Buddy, Sasha, Stella and Harriet to name a few. He and Leah enjoyed camping, and their favourite place was Suzanne Lake, where they spent multiple summers hanging out at the lake with friends, cooking up delicious fireside meals.  He was quick witted and always loved making people laugh. Never a dull moment with Fuzz around… he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Leah; children Brooklyn and Rylan; parents Mike and Donnie Simmonds; sisters Kim (Andrew) Dynes, Stacey Simmonds; brothers Corey (Martha) Simmonds, Butch Simmonds; father-in-law Rodger (Paulette) McKinnon; aunts, uncles, multiple nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Predeceased by his mother-in-law Joyce McKinnon; brother-in-law Scott McKinnon, and both pairs of grandparents.

A private celebration will be held at a later time. Those wishing to donate to a cause in Trevor’s name may do so at Special Olympics Canada, by clicking the DONATE link at www.specialolympics.ca.
