Stephen "Steve" Donald Smolnicky

The family of Steve Smolnicky are saddened to announce his passing peacefully on May 3rd, 2025, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Steve built a life defined by dedication to his family, his work, and his community. He worked in the environmental and geotechnical field for forty-five years and took great pride in owning his own business, Enviro Geotechnical, for twenty-five years. 

Steve met numerous people in the Medicine Hat area during his working years and valued their friendship.

In retirement, Steve and Jeannette launched a successful laundromat/drycleaner, a project that brought them both pride and joy. Steve especially enjoyed family vacations in Mexico, where he created lasting memories with those he loved the most. 

Steve is survived by his wife, Jeannette; much loved step children, Terry (Janice) Smith and Andrea (Danny) Sanders; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Emma and Jacob Smith; grand fur dogs, Krieger and Seamus; brother, Roger (Judy) Smolnicky; sisters, Ramah Zima, Debbie McNab; sister-in-law, Marcella Dola, and brother-in-law, Garry (Glenda) Vossler; as well numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held May 17th, 2025, at 1:00pm at Chinook Village Terrace Room (2801 13th Ave SE entrance 10). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local SPCA (55 Southwest Drive, Medicine Hat AB. T1A 8E8) in Steve’s memory.
