Robert "Bob" Edward Holmes

Robert Holmes was born in Calgary Alberta and adopted as an infant by Fran and Albert Holmes of Brooks, joining their family with his sister, Patricia Grace (Paddy).   He grew up and was educated in Brooks.  As a young boy, Robert (Bob) excelled in sports, particularly hockey. He had a sly sense of humor and a kind nature.   

Unfortunately, Robert developed Schizophrenia as a young adult.  This devastating illness was to shape the rest of his life.  He was hospitalized many times, eventually settling in the city of Medicine Hat.  

Thanks to the supportive care he received there, Robert was able to live independently and was never without housing.  The family is eternally grateful to everyone who made this possible for Robert.  It could have very easily taken a different turn for someone with his challenges.  

Robert developed cancer which eventually brought him to St. Joseph’s Home where he passed away peacefully in the evening.  

Robert is predeceased by his parents, Frances and Albert Holmes, and all of his aunts and uncles on both sides of the family.  He is survived by his sister, Patricia Grace Huszar; his brother-in-law, Frank Huszar, and their children, Franklin Huszar and Teresa Huszar; as well as several cousins.  

Robert will be cremated and his cremated remains will be placed with his mother, Frances Holmes, in the Brooks Cemetery at a later date.  Anyone wishing to join the family for this is invited to contact his sister, Patricia Grace Huszar of Lethbridge.  We would be happy to include you in the memorial.
