Nicifrosa "Nici" Cartera Obituary

On Sunday September 5, 2021, Nicifrosa (Nici) Cartera was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at the age of 48 years old. Nici leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Eduardo; her adoring son, Paul and his wife, Rena. She is also survived by her loved ones in the Philippines; her dear mother, Julie; father, Jess; brothers, Darwin (Tonette), Junior, Arvin (Gina), Rommel (Jessa); sister, Odette (Edward); and Eduardo’s parents, Gilda and Eduardo; his brother, Ereneo; his sister, Nariza (Raymund); as well as many extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Nici was born on July 1, 1973, in San Clemente, Tarlac, Philippines. After completing high school, she began a new chapter of her life that took her abroad to Singapore, Lebanon, Taiwan, and eventually Canada where she provided compassionate care to both young and old. She returned home to the Philippines from Singapore and met the love of her life, Eduardo. They were married on December 18, 1994, and welcomed their only child, Paul, soon after. Nici took great pride and joy in her son, Paul, which led her to continue pursing work abroad. On September 29, 2008, she courageously came to Canada and continued her passion of providing care. Nici worked tirelessly in order to reunite her husband and son in Canada with her. This led her to complete her Health Care Aid Certificate, which opened up many doors and opportunities where she made countless colleagues and friends. In 2014, while Nici was visiting in the Philippines, Eduardo and Paul received their visa and she was able to bring them to Canada with her. This is where they put down roots and spent the most time together as a family.

Nici would often share how she came to Canada searching for a deeper relationship with the Lord. Her life was forever altered when she began attending Life Church in Medicine Hat. In 2009, Nici was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit and became a pillar in her church. Nici passionately served, cared, ministered and shared the Gospel with everyone who crossed her path. She had a true servant’s heart and touched the lives of many. It brought Nici great joy to cook for others, whether it was participating in church potlucks, delivering meals to friends, hosting BBQs in her backyard, or taking food to her coworkers. Nici lived everyday preparing for her eternal home, and her family takes comfort knowing that she has reached the goal she lived her life for.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
