Mary Agnes Letkeman (née Rempel) passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at the age of 86. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, David Letkeman, in 2022 after 64 years of marriage.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children: Doug (Joanne) Letkeman, Beverly (John) Laugesen, Ron Letkeman, Steve (JoAnne) Letkeman, and Dan Letkeman; eight grandchildren: Krista, David, Brennan, Danica, Brittany, Kailey, Alison, and Melissa; along with six great-granddaughters: Noelle, Ophelia, Lyla, Mabel, Fallon, and Clara.
Mary was also predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Agnes Rempel; five brothers, Arthur, George, Herman, Peter, and Herbert; and three sisters, Tena, Elsie, and Erna.
She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and grew up on the family farm southeast of Steinbach, Manitoba. She loved playing baseball, both at school and with her family on Sunday afternoons.
Mary married Dave Letkeman on October 20, 1957. Together, they raised their five children. Dave’s work brought the family to many communities—Steinbach and Winnipeg, MB; Langley and Nelson, BC; Edmonton, and finally, Medicine Hat, AB, where they settled for the last 27 years of their lives.
Mary devoted herself to raising her family and supporting others. She fostered 19 children and was involved in her church communities. She sang in choirs, including the Hat Harmonettes, served in ladies’ ministries, led Pioneer Girls, organized church socials, taught Sunday school, and—alongside Dave—led adult Bible studies for many years. In 1982, she and Dave joined The Gideons, where they are now charter members.
Mary and Dave shared a love of travel, enjoying memorable trips to Hawaii, Arizona, Europe, and across Alberta and British Columbia.
Her favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
She is now reunited with her dear husband, Dave, and her legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
