It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Lillian Ellen Massena (nee Piper) at the age of 98 years on July 12, 2026.
Lillian will be greatly missed by her family: children, Susan (Timothy Stabell) and Michael (Barbara); grandchildren, Judy (Jeremy) Haasdyk, Mark (Amy) Stabell, Sarah (Adam) George, Paul (Melissa) Stabell, Paige and Hayley Massena; and eight great-grandchildren (Naomi, Johanna, Daniel, Emelyn, Jack, Andrew, Anaya and Sullivan). She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Gordon; brothers, William and Charles; sisters, Rosalie and Eleanor.
Lillian was born to Barbara Jane (nee Ripley) and Frederic Charles Piper in Gwillimbury (Mount Albert), Ontario on August 13, 1927. She moved to Toronto, where she trained in Shaw’s Business College. There Lillian married Gordon Massena in June of 1949. They lived in Montreal and then moved to Edmonton where Susan was born in 1953 and Michael in 1956. Lillian lived for nearly seven decades in Edmonton, before spending her final few years at Susan's home in Redcliff (Medicine Hat).
Lillian was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved singing and playing music in the church, doing crafts, and serving as an ever-gracious hostess.
Cremation has taken place in Medicine Hat, which will be followed by a Celebration of Life on September 4, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 7215 97 Street in Edmonton.
