Hoel, Leslie C. LCol (Ret’d) RCOC/Log, born in Medicine Hat, AB on October 9th, 1925, passed away on July 4th, 2024, in Medicine Hat, AB. Beloved husband of Jacqueline (Gauthier) for 70 years. Leslie, a graduate of UBC, spent 33 years in the service of his country, including 2 years in the RCAF as a pilot in WW2.
Whilst still at UBC, he joined the Canadian Army and upon graduation from UBC, went on to serve and live in eight countries in four continents. He was a member of the Canadian Forces Administration and Training Team in Tanzania, East Africa as Senior Logistic advisor to the Tanzania military. They lived in Dar es Salaam, where they travelled extensively on duty or as a tourist throughout East Africa. He attended a course at the Royal Military College of Science in the UK and as a student and later as a part of the Directing Staff of the Canadian Army Staff college in Kingston, ON. He was employed at the Canadian Embassy, in Washington, DC as a part of the Canadian Defence Liaison Staff as Commanding Officer and Senior Staff Officer. On leaving the military, he accepted employment as Commercial Officer at the Embassy for over ten years. A dedicated traveller, he visited over twenty countries on four continents. An avid golfer, he played the game throughout the world including Tanzania, Australia, NZ and USA and was a member of several golf clubs including the Army & Navy Country Club Kingston, ON. At the time of his death, he was also a lifetime member at Cataraqui Golf and Country Club, also in Kingston, ON. Leslie had requested immediate cremation and private interment at Sainte Thérèse Cemetery, St. Thérèse, QC at a later date.
