The family of Leo Lewans announce his passing on January 11th, 2025, two days before his 95th birthday. Leo was born January 13th, 1930, at Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, the fourth child of Michael and Bertha Lewans.
He attended Edmund and Beechmore schools in the Orkney, Saskatchewan area. After completing grade 8, he helped his father on the family farm and in 1946, left to work various jobs in Alberta and British Columbia. In 1952, he settled in Medicine Hat working for Holt trucking developing the Trans Canada Highway. He remained in Medicine Hat working for various trucking companies as well as the City of Medicine Hat until retiring in 1987.
Leo married Doreen Barth in 1953 and had one son, Richard. In 1985, Leo and Doreen were divorced and Leo married Mary Kay Biggs in 1989. In his final years, Leo moved to South Country Village where he enjoyed excellent care and support.
Leo enjoyed camping, travelling, wine making and volunteering time for the Knights of Columbus.
Leo was predeceased by his wife, Mary Kay; siblings, Gertrude, Anna, Mary and Rev. Fr. Bernard Lewans; as well as his son, Richard. He is survived by his sister, Irma Syrenne; brothers, Al and George Lewans; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Family Parish on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 10:30AM.
