Kim Schell Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kim John Schell, beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. Born in Edmonton on December 23, 1957, Kim grew up with a spirited sense of adventure and an unwavering love for his family and friends.

In 1973, Kim moved with his family to Calgary, where he spent numerous hours in the garage working on his latest “hot car” and balancing his high school years working as both a mechanic and a part time cook that showcased his hardworking nature and love for hands-on tasks. Following his graduation, Kim embarked on a rewarding 20-year career in the Oil & Gas Industry, making his home in Morinville. There, he was a familiar face on the ball diamond, where his passion for sports and community shone brightly. He was an avid competitive bowler, sometimes travelling as far as Las Vegas for bowling tournaments.

Kim later returned to Calgary, finding a new role at the airport where, for a decade, he ensured planes were well-stocked with food and beverages.  On his days off he loved to go camping in the Kananaskis, enjoying the nature and wildlife and meeting new people. Upon retirement, he relocated to Medicine Hat to be closer to his cherished daughters, Kylee Schell and Kristen Schell, and his treasured grandson, Keaton Schell-Henwood. Kim’s devotion to his family was unwavering, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness.

Known for his friendly, outgoing nature, Kim was a true social butterfly. He made friends wherever he went, delighting in every opportunity to chat and connect. His warmth, humour, and welcoming spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who met him, and he leaves behind countless fond memories and smiles.

Kim’s life was also filled with remarkable stories—such as the time he was bitten by a rattlesnake, and another when he swore he had seen a Sasquatch, a tale his loved ones never grew tired of teasing him about. These stories, and his zest for life, will be lovingly remembered.

Kim will be dearly missed by his mother, Florence Schell; daughters, Kylee Schell and Kristen Schell; and grandson, Keaton Schell-Henwood. He is also survived by his close friend and ex wife, Cindy Schell; sister, Wendy Norby (Darrell); nieces, Stephanie Norby (Jeremy) and Amber Norby; Great Nieces Jade and Sam, Aunt Stella Schippers; Uncle Rick Corbett; and numerous cousins, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Kim is predeceased by his father, John Schell.

His family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who have shared their condolences and memories. Kim’s legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will live on in all who knew him.
