Karen Rae Leitch

It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Leitch of Medicine Hat announce her passing on May 12, 2026 at the age of 77.  Born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Karen moved to Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 12 where she attended high school at Strathcona Composite High School. She then attended University in British Columbia before beginning her teaching career in Weyburn.  She taught at elementary schools in Weyburn until retiring. Upon retirement Karen moved to Medicine Hat to be closer to family. 

She leaves behind her brother Jim, Lyn, and their children, Bryan (Noemi), Brad (Amaris); great nephews and nieces Evan, Diego of Medicine Hat, and Nehemiah, Faraday, Aria, Darius, Jesper, Jaden of Kelowna, British Columbia. Karen was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Evelyn; and brother Terry.

She was a dedicated and compassionate educator who touched the lives of countless students throughout her career. As a teacher, Karen loved working with young people both as an elementary classroom teacher and also a resource room teacher. She was also involved with coaching students after school.

Karen loved the outdoors with many summers spent camping with family. She loved golf, playing board games, and spending time with family.  Some of her most treasured times were those spent in visiting great nephews and nieces. She loved and valued her time spent online tutoring family members.

Above all else Karen valued family and will be dearly missed by all family members. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honour her memory by spending quality time with loved ones.

Karen was a kind person who will be mourned by all who were fortunate to know her. At Karen’s request she will be silently remembered by family and friends without the proceedings of a formal funeral service. For those wishing to attend, a visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm at Grace Memorial.
