Predeceased by mother, Madeline and father, Francis and brothers, Foster and Francis Tobey.

Joseph was born to Madeline and Francis in Honey Harbour, Ontario December 12, 1950. His early years were spent in Honey Harbour. While attending high school in Midland, he met and then married Margaret Swaile. They went on to have 8 children together.  Joe would call many Ontario towns home, including Cape Croker where he lived until moving in 2013. Joseph loved his family, which was one of the reasons he moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta, which became his home and where he lived the last 10 and a half years of his life.

Joe worked in the trades as a carpenter for many years. He loved this career until he became ill in his early fifties at which time he was forced to retire. Fortunately, his health improved after moving to Alberta and he was able to spend more time outdoors enjoying his hobbies of gardening, fishing, and hunting. He could also be found visiting and sharing stories with those around him where you could hear his Tobey laugh. His desire to return to work and his improved health allowed him to become a recognizable face around Medicine Hat as a delivery driver.  Just like any work he did, he took pride in what he did, committing himself to work hard. He enjoyed this work and being able to meet so many people which led him to developing friendships that were important to him. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he valued friendships made there as well.

Funeral Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7 Saamis Rotary Way SW, Medicine Hat, on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 11 am. The service will be live streamed.
