Jeanette (Jan) Leray

Jeanette (Jan) Leray (nee Rooks) passed away on July 15, 2025, at the age of 78 years at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Jeanette is lovingly remembered by her sons; Bobby (Sheila) Dair with his children, Robert (Caitlin) Dair, Justine (Tyler) Oler and their mother Sandy; and Clayton (Vicki) Gunn with their children Jeff Gunn and Evan Gunn; brothers Darryl (Myrna) Rooks and Clayton Rooks.  Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, George and Anne Rooks; husband, Jeff Gunn; son, Cameron West; brothers, Dennis (Janet) Rooks and Derwyn (Wendy) Rooks; and sister, Shirley (Gene) Pearson.

Jeanette was born on February 25, 1947, to George and Anne Rooks in Swan River, Manitoba. After High School, Jan moved to Winnipeg where she met Jeff Gunn.  In 1977, Jan moved to Lancashire, England with her husband, Jeff Gunn and their sons.  After Jeff’s passing in 1979, the family returned to Canada.  Jan lived in Hudson Bay, Saskatoon and Prince Albert before settling in Medicine Hat.

Mom enjoyed visiting with family and friends. It was important to her that things looked good and were in their place.  She was a classy lady who dressed accordingly.  Her house/condo looked like it could have come out of a magazine.  Jeanette shared many strong friendships throughout her years that will forever be cherished.
