Heike Mary Unser, 79, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, at Medicine Hat Hospital, surrounded by her sons.
Heike was born on August 10, 1945, in Germany, and immigrated to Canada where she built a life of quiet strength, service, and deep devotion. She married her beloved husband, Anthony (Tony) Unser, when she was just twenty years old. Together, they raised four sons and worked side by side in their family flower shop. Heike lovingly cared for Tony through decades of illness, a commitment that reflected both her deep loyalty and selfless spirit.
A devout Catholic, Heike’s faith was the foundation of her life. She was a prayer warrior, a source of encouragement to many, and a quiet presence of strength and resilience in the lives of her family, friends, and community. Her life was a living testimony to grace and sacrifice.
Heike found great joy in caring for others — people and animals alike. She adored her many cats and dogs over the years and loved house-sitting and caring for others’ pets as if they were her own. Baking and sewing were also a passion of hers. Her gentle presence and open heart brought comfort to all who knew her.
She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Michael (Veronica), Stephen (Margaret) and Cameron (Christine); her cherished grandchildren Joanna, Matthew, Sarah, Gabrielle, Samuel, Lauren, Jorja, and AJ; eight great-grandchildren Saadieh, Othman, Sufiyah, Jared, Makayla, Elinor Rae, Fenris and Rowan. Also, her sister Christel, and her brother Walter.
She was predeceased by her husband Tony and her son Mark.
To know Heike was to be known, loved, and appreciated. She touched countless lives with her compassion and unwavering faith. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she nurtured, prayed for, and stood beside in love and faith.
Her funeral will be held at St. Michael's Church in Bow Island on August 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
