Gottfried Andres Obituary

Gottfried Andres, age 93, of Medicine Hat, Alberta, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Gottfried was a devoted husband to Susie Andres, sharing an extraordinary 72 years of marriage filled with love, partnership, and family.

Gottfried is survived by Susie and their four children, nine grandchildren, and eleven great‑grandchildren:

                                   Gerry (Ingrid) Andres: Brandon Andres, Courtney (Bryce) & Jaida Chambers, Alex Andres

                                   Lorraine Anderson: Keri (Keir) Jenkins, Chase & Aidan Jenkins; Michael (Sharlene) Anderson,

                                   Tenley & Bane Anderson; Jesse (Rob) Squires, Jaxson & Ryder Squires;

                                   Roy (Shaunee‑Jo) Andres: Jasper (Chris) Williams, Emily & Elise Williams, Jesse Vantamlen

                                   Krista (Kelly) Kambeitz: Jalayna (Caleb) Denman; Kayla (Chris) Csada, Avah & Ashton Csada

He is also remembered by extended family, nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends.

Gottfried was predeceased by his parents, Philip & Theresa Andres, his brother Philip Andres, his son‑in‑law Gene Anderson, and his grandson Jeremy Denman.

Born on February 22, 1933, in Sekitsch, Yugoslavia, Gottfried immigrated to Canada in May 1953. Susie followed in September 1954, and the two were married shortly afterward in Lethbridge on November 6, 1954. Together, they built a rich and meaningful life in Medicine Hat.

A man of remarkable work ethic, Gottfried spent his early years with the CPR building bridges in the Lethbridge area. He later worked at the Medicine Hat Foundry, Maple Leaf Mills, and in construction for many years. His craftsmanship was exceptional—he built five homes for his family and took great pride in concrete and brickwork. He was happiest with a project in front of him and rarely sat still.

Gottfried lived life with energy and enthusiasm. He loved hiking, camping, skiing, swimming, gardening, and travelling. He was an avid stamp collector, a passionate reader, and enjoyed capturing memories with video and his camera. One of his most memorable adventures was hiking Fisher Peak at age 75.

In the last decade of his life, Gottfried found joy at the family cabin in Elkwater—playing minigolf, spending time outdoors, and paddleboarding at every opportunity. At 92 years old, he completed his final paddleboard trip, a testament to his spirit and vitality.

Gottfried was kind, friendly, helpful, enjoyed socializing and had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved deeply and generously. His devotion to his family was unwavering, and his life remains an inspiration to all who knew him.

He will be forever missed—and we imagine him now, peacefully paddleboarding on a beautiful lake in heaven.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
