Gerard Fahey Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our loving brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Gerard Thomas Fahey at the age of 66. Gerard died suddenly at his home in Medicine Hat, Alberta on March 10, 2022.

Born and raised in Sydney Mines, Gerard was the son of the late Patrick and Muriel (Jessome) Fahey.

Over the years Gerard had been employed at the Woolco in Sydney River and the Alder Point fish plant. He moved to Halifax and worked with his brother, Michael for a few years. At the time of his death, Gerard was living in Medicine Hat, Alberta where he had worked at ADM Milling and the Canadian Tire Store, from where he retired.

Gerard’s main passion in life was music. He taught himself to play the guitar when he was a teenager. He loved playing guitar and singing. He was a member of various bands over the years while he lived in Sydney mines and area. Nothing made him more happy than to be on stage singing and playing guitar with his band members. He also would love to sit at a kitchen party and sing and play his guitar all night long. He also enjoyed a good game of pool and darts. He had been a member of the dart league at the Army & Navy Club in Bras D’or, and he also had his own family dart club.

Gerard also loved to fish, especially with his brothers in the “Fahey Pool” in front of his late brother, Patrick’s cottage on the Margaree River.

Gerard was very proud to be an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He was a great friend to everyone he met.

Gerard will be sadly missed and survived by his son, Matthew (Christina) Crane, Halifax; grandson, Vincent and granddaughter, Olivia. He is also survived by his sister, Ella Mayeu, Westville; Laura Chiasson, Innisfil; Frances McInnis, Medicine Hat; Rita (Alan Found), Berwick, and Ann (Michael Ley), Louisbourg; sisters-in-law, Sarah Ann, Sydney; Keitha, Ontario; Joanne, Halifax; Maureen, Glace Bay; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Besides his parents, Gerard was predeceased by his sister, Alice Butts; his brothers, Bill, Leonard, Patrick, Lewis and Michael; his brothers-in-law, Andre Mayeu, Ernest Butts, Michael Chiasson, and Reid Tait; and his sister-in-law, Minnie (Bates) Fahey.
