Barbara Oveson - Glasgo Obituary

I come to you with great peace in my heart and soul to let you know that I have gone to be with my Creators. Being the nonconformist that I am – I am writing this myself.

My Mom and Dad, Ted and Marjorie Oveson, left this earth many years ago, and I now get to be with them again! Now for the people that are still here with you; my husband, Cecil Glasgo, my very best friend; my son, Bernis Glasgo and his wife, Nikki, who are both the most loving and caring children and the joy of my life.  Also, my one surviving brother and two sisters, Linda and Larry Augustine, Dale and Beth Oveson, and Brenda and Doug Bauman.  I have eight nieces and nephews with Tania, Julie and Scott being true friends of mine. I was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on June 21, 1963. I came from an oilfield family and therefore moved several times – with my final residence being Medicine Hat.  After several part time jobs, I secured a full-time position at the MH Provincial Court in 1984. Prior to this I met Cecil and we moved into our present home of 40 years in July, 1981. After working for several years, my little bundle of joy - our son Bernis came along.  He was an addition to our four-legged kids. We had way too many horses, some cows, a few chickens and a dog in those days. I enjoyed my home, my animals and my yard – especially my trees. I never thought any of them to be work – and loved watching everything grow. As a growing family we did a lot of peddle biking both on and off road – which included many hilarious crashes by all of us. I also rode my horses as much as time would allow. Quadding in the mountains with our little 4-year-old brought a lot of great memories. Later on, it turned into obtaining old tractors and construction equipment that were our family outings. I loved being with my boys, especially on an adventure that took us to picking up equipment that was at least 50 years old – knowing that it was going to become an operable running piece of machinery one day. It took us all these years to finally smarten up and work down to 3 horses, “the children” who are our 11 barn cats, and the best dog ever, “Giro”. Giro (who recently passed away) and I ran agility – best sport ever! I look so forward to seeing her and running with her again – Yeah! In 1991, I returned to work, this time at MHPS. I spent the next 25 plus years there. I held several jobs with the Police Service doing what I could to look after the well-being of the Officers and to ensure their safe return home to their families after each shift. I remain friends with many and have many fond memories of my days at the station.

Outside of work, I have been blessed with so many wonderful friends, I love you all. All your love and kindness and especially your support over the past two years is without words. Unfortunately, my gremlins chose to visit again in January 2019. These gremlins are better known to all as cancer – but since I don't like that word – they are just my gremlins. I had 11 years of gremlin free greatness until they returned – this time hitting me a lot harder and therefore getting the better of me. Prior to them taking me down, I was able to “shake a leg” in November 2020 at Bernis and Nikki's wedding – what a celebration!

So that brings me to now, there will be no funeral, no flowers, and any cards can be sent to PO Box 1122, Medicine Hat, Alta., T1A 7H3. How I wish for you all to remember me is on Saturday, April 10, 2021 @130pm – please stop what you are doing, where ever you are in the world (in other words no travelling) and take a few minutes to smile and reminisce with me, either by yourself, and/or with family and friends – and give a cheer. I'll be watching – LOL!!

Remember we can never get back yesterday. Life is to be lived not endured. Be happy and live your life always with love and kindness.

                                                                                                                                                                       Barb
