After 97 revolutions around the sun and thousands more around his grain fields, Arthur George (Art) Strain passed away November 13th, 2021, at Long Term Care in Bow Island.
Dad was born in Lethbridge on August 1st, 1924, to George and Lydia Strain and joined his brothers, Doug and Bert on the homestead south of Nemiscam, where he lived and farmed for the next 95 years. While growing up during The Depression, he developed his love of family, farming, music and sports. Jam sessions, ballgames and pond hockey were his passions. Later on, he enjoyed coaching ball, curling in Foremost and skiing and golfing in Elkwater. Many hours were spent enjoying family and friends at the cottage in Elkwater and watching the kids and grandkids sports and activities.
Dad was a Robertson Associate seed grower and processor and an esteemed lifetime member of the Canadian Seed Growers Association, winning numerous awards for his grain at Seed Fairs in Lethbridge and Calgary and the World Championship in Toronto.
Art is survived by Eve, his wife of 72 years and their children, Gail (Jim) Westland, Wendy (Kelly) Hagel, Gary (Phoebe) Strain and Lynn (Nick) Tait; grand-children, Gerry (Ashley), Shannon (Jake), Ryan, Ashlee (Kelly), Meagan (David), Owen (Nicole), Emilia, Georgia and Alex; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family celebration of life at a later date. If so desired, donations in Art’s name may be made to Halo or a charity of one’s choice.
“You’ll see as you go!”
